Sweden won the first three places of the Venla relay. The winner was Domnarvets GoIF, Alfta-Ösa OK came in second and Järla made it to the third place. The best Finnish team was SK Pohjantähti at fourth place. Domnarvets GoIF won the Tiomila women’s relay about a month ago, so the team’s victory here in Jukola was not a big surprise.

Emma Johansson, who is part of the Swedish national team, had the anchor leg and did a good job
in keeping other competitors far behind her.
– Of course I am very happy about our victory. I didn’t think of this as a sure victory and I wasn’t aware of the situation in the terrain until I was close to the finish line, explains Johansson.
Also Lena Eliasson, who had the third leg, says that the team did not think of this as a clear victory beforehand.
– I’m sure that a lot of people regarded us as the favorites after the victory in Tiomila, but we respect our opponents and we knew that the competition would be tough in this race, says Eliasson.

Sofia Haajanen, the anchor of the best Finnish team SK Pohjantähti, was not dissappointed in their fourth place in the end. She says that she did not see many other last leg runners in the beginning of the course. She spotted Saila Kinni from Pyrinnön ankkuri once or twice, but it wasn’t until towards the end of the course that she noticed that the orienteerers of the Swedish teams were no longer very far away.
– I did think on the home stretch that darn, here we are once again very close to the medalists but will come in fourth. Nevertheless, we are very satisfied with our performance.
– It’s great to be competing in Jukola, here the course setters always do a good job. The course was great, once again.
