Take your children along

These nice looking friends welcomes children to Little Eero’s yard.

Jukola relay is an event, which attracts athletes as well as people not so keen on sports. Jukola is known of its relaxed atmosphere. Usually whole families come to the event, that is the reason children well-being has been in focus also at the Jämsä-Jukola.

There is one particular place at the Jämsä-Jukola called Pikku-Eeron piha (Little Eero’s yard), in which parents can spend time with their children. To support parents students from Jämsä College will guide activities. Controlled childcare though is not available. Päivi Pitkänen, who works as a teacher acts as programme leader. What is the story behind the Little Eero’s yard?

– We wanted to call this place with a name suitable for the event as well as for the place. Eero was the youngest one of the Seven Brothers (Finnish novel by Aleksis Kivi) and also this yard is for the smallest one in Jämsä-Jukola, Päivi tells.

Besides the programme there is a small house, granary, in which children can draw and do small craft work. There is space for some 40 children at the time.  Also feeding and diaper change is possible.

Own route for children

The Seven Brother’s story path starts from the yard. The route is signposted and easy. There are assignments which will lead children to the adventures of the Seven Brothers. The story path costs for 5 euros and includes a small prize.

Little Eero’s yard is open on Jukola weekend from Saturday 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. The story path subject a charge is open only on Saturday from 12 to 8 p.m. Close to Little Eero’s yard is one of the Jukola coffee shops.
