Course setters’ hard work culminates this weekend

Louna-Jukola course setters have been working for years for this one weekend. This background work and all the preparation are vital for a successful competition week. However, the course setters have been keeping themselves busy even during the last remaining days before the event.

During last weekend, a great deal of work was done: the controls (the control flags, the punching systems as well as reflectors for night time controls) were all delivered to the terrain.

– Only a few controls situated in very visible places will be put into place just before the competition, the Venla relay course setter Jyrki Kajavalta informs.

– We also have placed hundreds of meters of forbidden area tapes into the terrain. And before the competition we will go through all the practical aspects with those in charge of the refreshment controls and those monitoring the controls, states the Jukola course setter Jukka Oksa.

The course setters comment that everything is on schedule. And what kind of routes can the competitors expect from this year’s Jukola?

– Versatile and entertaining, states Oksa.

– Well, they are routes, Kajavalta is willing to reveal.

Any last minute tips for those competing?

– You have to be precise, as always in orienteering. And make sure you are properly fueled.
