When east and west swapped places

A novelty in the Jukola shop this year is jewellery with an orienteering theme designed by Pia Westerberg. She is a silversmith who takes part in the Venla Relay for the third time and has been designing jewellery with an orienteering theme almost as long as that.

Pia Westerberg likes to design big jewelly, but after she started orienteering, she realized that people running in the forest cannot wear anything big. Another funny thing with her first designs was that east and west had swapped places. It was Minna Kauppi, the Finnish top orienteerer, who got one of these pieces and noticed the mistake.

In addition to the top orienteerers, also he royals have got some of Pia Westerberg’s jewellery. President Tarja Halonen gave one to Princess Victioria of Sweden.

The Jukola shop sells official Jukola products, for example Jukola T-shits, postcards and stamps. If you leave your postcards in the shop to be posted, you will get them Jukola postmarked. This year the shop also sell some local specialities, for example canned vendace and wooden blaze boards fo rpreparing salmon on an open fire.

The Jukola shop is open 14.6.2014 9.00 am – 15.6.2014 3.00 pm.
