The rules of FOF are available at the FOF website www.suunnistusliitto.fi. It is not allowed to use spike shoes. Dobb shoes are allowed. Top teams will need to wear GPS tracking system (provided by the organizer) throughout the competition; if a team refuses to do this, it will be disqualified.

Detailed competition instructions will be available on the Valio-Jukola website in May 2012.

The area of the Hakunila Recreation Park will be embargoed area from the 15th of April 2012 onwards (see the detailed map of the embargoed area on the Valio-Jukola website). For a relay competitor it is then forbidden to enter this area, excluding the attendance to following events: Extreme Run on the 19th of May 2012 and the Summer Night March on the 29th of May 2012. In addition, keep in mind the forbidden area.

Competition map and the punching system

The scale is 1:10 000, contour interval 5 m, six colours, in accordance with the IOF standards and will be printed in March 2012. The maps are in plastic map cases. The map is drawn by Pekka Rytkönen (2010–2011). The electronic punching system (Emit) will be in use.

Entries

Entries need to be submitted through the Valio-Jukola website www.jukola.com/2012. Access code to the electronic enrolment system will be sent via e-mail in December 2011 to those clubs and associations that took part in Salpa-Jukola 2011. Clubs and associations that have not attended the Jukola or Venla Relay before will receive their code by registering to the electronic enrolment system.

Entries should be done by 12 p.m. on the 1st of March 2012 (reduced fee) or the latest, by 12 p.m. on the 17th of May (regular fee). Late entries will be accepted until 12 p.m. on the 8th of June 2012 (with an additional fee). In order for an entry to be recognised, the entry fee has to be paid on time and by using the correct payment details.

Participants do not need a Finnish Orienteering Federation’s licence. The age limits for juniors must be followed and the information about the runners in the teams must be correct. In both cases, this is the responsibility of the person entering the teams. Both men and women may run in the Jukola Relay. Women, who have attended the Venla Relay, may also run in the Jukola Relay, but not in a team of an orienteering club. Teams from associations other than orienteering clubs may include maximum of two first class orienteers aged between 17 and 39 (the Finnish final ranking in 2011).

A team must have at least three Emit cards. The same Emit card cannot be used by two different teams in the same relay. However, the same card may be used in both Jukola and Venla Relays. Emit cards can be rented from the organisers at the cost of 10 € per card. A team inquiring rental cards must indicate the exact amount of cards requested when making their entry. Personal Emit card numbers are not needed in advance. They will be registered into the electronic results system at the competition centre, when the runners enter the starting/changeover area.

Entry fees

The entry fee is based on the payment day. Notice! In case the fee is not made by the deadline date, the entry fee will be higher according the payment day. The teams, who have paid incorrectly, will not be allowed to start.

Entry fees and other pre-event payments are presented in the table beneath. When paying, one has to use the correct payment details given by the enrolment system.

Accommodation

Accommodation in the competition centre has to be booked and paid by the 17th of May 2012. Accommodation can be booked through the electronic enrolment system and paid for by using the payment details given by the system. Prices for accommodation are presented in the table above.

Accommodation takes place primarily in clubs’ own tents. Both 10 x 10 meter and 5 x 5 meter camping areas are available.

In addition, a restricted number (350) of unheated tents (each tent is for 16 persons) will be provided by the organisers. The tents are located approximately 500 – 800 meters from the main guiding pole. These tents are meant primarily for non-Finnish clubs. Clubs can book and pay for the tents through the electronic enrolment system (this should be done by the 17th of May 2012). Finnish clubs and associations can make a preliminary booking on these tents by the 17th of May 2012. This should be done by sending an e-mail to the Valio-Jukola Office, info.2012@jukola.com. After the required number of tents has been allocated to foreign clubs, the remaining tents will be drawn by lots. A confirmation will be sent to those Finnish clubs that have been allocated a tent. The payment for the tent should be made after having received the confirmation.

There will also be a restricted number of sleeping places (on a classroom floor) available at a school that is located next to the competition centre. Parking area for caravans is located near the competition centre and there will be a restricted number of places available. Both school accommodation and caravan parking need to be booked and paid by the 17th of May 2012.

Information about other accommodation opportunities will be available on the Valio-Jukola internet-site.

Service tents for the teams

Clubs and associations have an opportunity to book a place (5m x 6m) for a service tent near the changeover/finishing area. Teams with the best ranks in Salpa-Jukola 2011 will have a first call to the first row. Rest of the places will be allocated according to the booking order (there will be a restricted number of places available). Those clubs and associations that make an entry for at least eight teams (both Jukola and Venla teams added together) will have the right to book a place for two service tents. Booking and payment for the places should be done in conjunction with the entry (the latest on the 17th of May 2012).

Competition centre

The competition centre is located in Hakunila Recreation Park (north-east from the junction of the Ring III and the highway 4 [E75] from Helsinki to Lahti). It will be opened on Friday the 15th of June 2012 at 10.00 a.m. No accommodation is allowed or available prior to the opening. During the event, there will be, for example, a canteen, first aid services, information desk as well as shops and exhibition areas in the centre.

Arrival

Detailed instructions for arrival will be posted on the Valio-Jukola website in May 2012.

There will be a non-stop bus transport from the Tikkurila railway station to the competition centre (estimated time of travel from 20 to 30 minutes) as well as from the Mellunmäki metro station (estimated time of travel from 15 to 20 minutes). These shuttle busses are the easiest and most convenient way to reach the competition centre. Timetables for the busses will be available on the Valio-Jukola internet-site later on. Team busses will be guided to a drop-off area in the event centre according to the instructions that will be posted on the Valio-Jukola internet-site in May 2012.

It is also easy cycle to the competition centre. Address of the centre is Luotikuja 1, Vantaa. There will be a special parking area reserved for bicycles in the competition centre.

Those who prefer arrival by car will need to prepare for rush hours and relatively long walking distances. Therefore, enough time should be reserved for the arrival. Everyone arriving from the direction of highway 5 is kindly advised to drive along the Mikkeli-Kouvola-Porvoo route in order to ensure the smoothness of traffic and parking near the competition centre. Traffic instructions and guiding road signs will be in place on Friday the 15th of June at 7.00 a.m. and it is necessary that these are followed.

Parking and parking fees

All cars will be parked in parking lots according to the guiding and instructions given by the organisers. Passenger cars will be parked in lots that are located at 1 200 – 1 700 meters distance from the main guiding pole. The drop-off area for team busses is located in the event centre, but busses will have to be parked in the harbour of Vuosaari (approximately seven kilometres away from the competition centre).

Parking fee for a passenger car is 10 € and it has to be paid on the arrival. Parking fee for caravans and busses is to be paid in conjunction with the booking.

Children’s activities

An eventful children’s world and orienteering tracks for TR- and RR-series will be provided in the competition centre. More information on the children’s activities will be posted on the Valio-Jukola internet-site later on.

Dressing and showers
