34th Youth Jukola Turku Saturday, 24 August 2019

Youth Jukola is an international orienteering relay of 7 legs for junior orienteers. The team is mixed, consisting of both girls and boys.

All legs include approximately 350 m of marked route. Forking is used on all legs, except on the 5th leg.

Start:

The relay starts at 11:00 a.m. with a mass start. The winner is expected to finish at 1:50 p.m.

Competition rules:

The competition rules of the Finnish Orienteering Federation (FOF), the organization instruction of Youth Jukola, and instructions given by the organizers must be followed. The use of spike shoes is prohibited. However, dobb shoes meant for orienteering are allowed (shoes with metal studs on their soles).

GPS tracking:

The organizer has reserved GPS tracking devices for the top teams of the relay for tracking during the competition on legs 2, 5 and 7. If a team refuses to carry GPS tracking devices, the team will be disqualified from the competition. Own GPS tracking devices are allowed. Specific instructions for using the GPS devices can be found on the organizer’s website.

Eligibility:

The contest is primarily aimed at club teams. Clubs that cannot put together their own relay team may form combination teams. Students from schools or youth organizations can also form teams. Runners from an orienteering club participating in a school or youth organization teams must ask permission from their own club. The team composition needs to be made according to the table presented above (leg and age). Girls can run the last leg. Furthermore, the organizer forms combined teams of runners who have signed up for the orienteer pool. Combination teams are not eligible for prices

Registration:

The registration for the relay opens on June 25th, 2019 and ends on August 12th, 2019 at midnight (EEST). Entries are processed through an online registration service, which can be found on the organiser’s website.

Late registration:

Late entries will be accepted until midnight on August 19th, 2019 with an additional fee.

Participation fee:

110 €/team. Late registration 165 €/team.

The participation fee for the registration and late registration is paid online using the official registration service.

Team compositions:

The final team compositions shall be registered by Friday August 23rd, 2019 no later than 9 p.m. using the registration system.

Competition office/INFO:

On Friday August the 23rd, 2019 the competition office is located at the accommodation school (Rieskalähteen koulu, Jöllintie 3, 20300 Turku) from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Saturday, August 24th the competition office is located at the competition centre from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Punching system:

Each team must have at least three Emit cards. The same Emit card may not be used by two different teams. Emit cards can be rented from the competition organiser for 4 €/card. The sufficient amount of Emit cards shall be reserved during the registration process online. The Emit card numbers are not needed in advance, they will be registered into the system when the runners enter the start or changeover area.

Club tents:

Club tents can be set up in the competition centre on Friday August 23rd, 2019 from 5 p.m. onwards. Tents can only be set up on reserved places. The booking of a tent place must be done during the registration process online. The size of the tent place is 6m x 6m and the fee is 10 €/tent.

Map:

Orienteering map 8/2019, scale 1:7500, contour interval 5 m. The size of the map is A4, and it is in a plastic cover.

Forbidden area:

The competition area is declared forbidden for competition and training until the 2019 Youth Jukola Relay. The forbidden area is presented on the competition website, as well as in the map register on the Finnish Orienteering Federation’s website.

Terrain:

The terrain is typical South-Western Finland bare rock hills and mixed forest. In addition to the sports track, there are plenty of paths and some height differences. The visibility is mostly good. Some parts contain more demanding orienteering with highly detailed parts.

Directions to the competition centre:

The competition centre is located at Impivaara Sports Centre at the end of Kurrapolku. The event will be sign posted from the crossing of Tampere highway and Markulantie. The drive from this junction to the parking area takes approx. 2 min. The signs will be displayed at 4 p.m. on Friday August 23rd, 2019.

Parking:

Parking is in the close vicinity of the competition centre, distance max 300 m.

Washing and changing:

Washing and changing facilities are located in the close vicinity of the competition centre.

Accommodation:

The organiser provides accommodation on the floor of a nearby school for the night between Friday and Saturday (sleeping bag, matress etc. are not included). Price for the accommodation is 15 €/person/night including breakfast. Evening meals are offered on Friday evening for 6 €/meal. The accommodation and evening meals must be reserved during the registration process. Remember to inform if a special diet is required.

The name of a contact person, e-mail address, phone number and a list of persons staying in the accommodation must be provided to the organiser latest upon arrival.

Accommodation is located at Rieskalähde school (address: Jöllintie 3, 20300 Turku). The signs will be displayed at 4 p.m. on Friday August 23rd, 2019.

Training:

Food and beverage:

There is a restaurant and cafe at the competition centre. Lunch is available at the restaurant, including vegetarian food. Meals do not contain lactose. Remember to request special diets (milk-free, gluten-free) at the latest on July 28th, 2019 from lotta.haavisto@fimnet.fi.
