More than 16 700 orienteers registered by the first stage

Altogether 16 720 orienteers registered for Kangasala-Jukola by the end of the first sign-up stage. It is almost 1 500 orienteers more than the all-time record at Lahti-Hollola Jukola last year. The next sign-up level deadline is on May 9th, and the last day to register for Kangasala-Jukola is May 29th.

– The registration situation is excellent, and it gives us even more passion and strength for the extensive arrangements during the spring, states General Secretary Antti Rantala.

Jukola and Venla relays have been growing year by year. In Lahti-Hollola Jukola last year, the total number of competitors was 19 716. Altogether 1 618 teams took part in Venla relay and in Jukola relay the number of registered teams was 1 892. There were teams coming from 22 different countries last year.

– It is a pleasure to see that the popularity of orienteering and Jukola is still growing, Rantala continues.

The arrangements of Kangasala-Jukola are in time, and General Secretary Rantala promises that there will also be something new for the competitors and spectators.

– The organizers will provide some new services in the competition centre, Rantala says.

In addition to awaited 20 000 orienteers, the organizers are expecting about 25 000 spectators and 150 media representatives during the competition weekend. The competition is arranged by 1 500 volunteers.
