Louna-Jukola Kick-Off Weekend – Turku Sprint and Pre-Jukola 2.-3.8.2014

Kuopio-Jukola is now behind us and the Jukola flag has been handed over to Louna-Jukola. Next event on the path to Louna-Jukola will be Kick-Off Weekend in Turku region in the beginning of August. On Saturday, August 2nd, Turku Sprint will take place right next to Turku city centre in diverse sprint terrain. Courses feature various city blocks, school areas and parks. Competitors in national classes will race in forested terrain abundant in paths. Turku Sprint is a World Ranking Event (WRE) and also the third event of Huippuliiga elite series.

On Sunday, August 3rd, it is time for Pre-Jukola relay in Paimio, with 12 different classes of three runners each, from youngest children to seasoned veterans. In addition, an open Lounapolku class is available for non-competitive orienteers. The terrain provides an outstanding chance to get acquainted with Louna-Jukola terrain type as well as an opening kick towards relay championships later in the autumn.

Lounapolku website will inform orienteers about current events on the way towards Louna-Jukola. Our aim is also to make new people interested in orienteering. Orienteering schools of the organizing clubs, Paimion Rasti and Turun Suunnistajat, provide excellent chances to get to know the sport better. Our goal is to get 77 non-club teams from nearby regions to participate in Louna-Jukola. At the same time, we aim at having an influence on people’s exercising habits to make them keep up with the sport even after Louna-Jukola.

In addition to pre-events, Louna-Jukola site provides information on training packages and accommodation alternatives for Louna-Jukola. So keep track on this site during the following year!
